Libraries of Stone

So at the moment I'm afraid I'm mostly thinking about Fenny Bentley, so most posts will relate to her.  She is a practitioner of the ancient Fleams method of knowledge storage and access.  In this system, the world around the practitioner is the library of their thought system.

Imagine The Library of Alexandria filled with the knowledge of the classical world.  Then it is all lost in a fire.  Imagine the libraries of Mali and Timbuktu; families and guardians of books strive to keep them safe, but they can be found and destroyed by opponents. Then imagine embedding your knowledge into the landscape and eco-system in which you live.  It could be your best chance of keeping your ancestral knowledge.  There would always be the chance of re-promulgation.  Unless, of course outsiders destroy your eco-system, as happens all over the world.

Stones are the most long-lasting markers.  We can still see them all over the UK, although we do not know what they were put there for.  But it's always possible we could find out...

Burdock and Stone

Standing Stones
In Fleams they don't have standing stones, they just use the natural rock formations, of which there are plenty.
